    Chemistry

    Introduction

Present in all sectors, chemistry is a permanent part of our daily lives.
It plays an essential role in the domains of health, cosmetics, transportation, and electronics.
It is also used to reduce the pollution of human activity through sustainable development.

    Application requirements

Admission upon title (Baccalauréat or foreign equivalent grade) is decided after evaluation of students’ files taking into account the curriculum and report of the candidates and the teachers’ recommendations in the students’ High school records.

    Programme

The programme is organized around lectures, tutorials in groups of 20 to 26 students, and practical work carried out by groups of 10 to 14 students. The course material is divided into 4 units.

    UE1: Chemistry and chemistry technology

    • Analytical and physical chemistry
    • Mineral chemistry
    • Organic chemistry
    • Chemical engineering (GC)

    UE2: Practical and professional instruction

    • Analytical and physical chemistry
    • Mineral chemistry
    • Organic chemistry
    • Chemical engineering
    • Physics

    UE3: Science and communication instruction

    • Mathematics
    • Applied micro-information technology
    • Physics
    • General instruction
    • English
    • Hygiene Security Environment Quality (HSEQ)

    UE4: Tutored projects and internship
    PPP – Individualized Professional Project
    Tutored projects
    Professional internship

    Internships

A 12 week internship constitutes an essential element of students’ learning. It permits them to realize concrete work in a company.
Students must conclude their internships with a written report and an oral defense before a jury composed of professionals and science executives (jury composed of internship supervisor and two teachers). It may take place in France or abroad.

Partner enterprises : Pharmaceutical industries (Sanofi-Aventis, Expansia-PCAS, Orgasynth) Cosmetics (L'Oréal); Medical labs (Fraudes, Police Scientifique, Veolia-Eau); Nuclear (CEA, Areva); Pneumatics (Michelin), Petrochemical (Axens-IFP); Research organizations (CIRAD, IRD, INRA), Foreign firms and university research labs (Canada, USA, Portugal, Norway, Hungary, Spain)

    Career opportunities

High Technicians in Chemistry work with engineers and researchers who are responsible for:

    • Control of products or analysis departments
    • Processes and production
    • Experimental, fundamental or applied research

Career opportunities for a high technician in chemistry are found in:

    • Chemical industry: chemicals and derivatives, metalwork, cosmetics, paints, inks, detergents, glues, automobile industry, plastics, wrapping products, wires
    • Pharmaceutical industry
    • Analysis laboratories and scientific control and instrumentation
    • Research and documentation centres
    • Activities of specialized commerce

    Environment protection and energy saving

    Further studies

The holder of a D.U.T. in chemistry, according to his academic results, can be offered a wide range of higher education courses:

    • Engineering schools
    • Bachelor and Master in chemistry or physics

Specialization courses (Bachelor degrees in Technology)
